Scary Movie Birthday Parties
Gerome The explanatory! Watercolor
As I took a vacation that was outstanding, I used to go to Madrid to see the Thyssen and the temporary exhibition Gerome. I also wanted to have taken advantage to paint a lot and go north to see the exhibition of Enrique Ochoa and greet pass Juankar Cardesín , but you know it seems that the weather is going to last long and then things go taking children to school, diapering and other ... Upon exposure
: awesome. Simply assumed Gerome the culmination of ten centuries of painting technique. And you may like more or less what he paints (expressionists hate to be the opposite of what they represent), but what is undeniable is that the oil dominated like no one has done.
few things surprised me: just used material, in fact only some light is very isolated something more than paint, the rest of the canvas is smooth as an eggshell. Clearly it was an exceptional artist. In almost all the pictures you can see the original pencil drawing, which gives an idea of the transparency of his painting, guess who painted in layers or glazes. He is a master of textures, there is no discernible brushwork in his paintings / tables, except in details of the land on which a release (for example, in the famous painting of Christians and lions , traces of soil are dry brush), but get incredible finishes the way it treats the edges. His sculpture did not seem like no big deal, though there pretty innovated techniques polychrome marble, perhaps the most remarkable a bust of Sarah Bernhardt , but nothing exceptional.
I had brought pencils and a notebook to take some notes, and I could only do that I am showing of "The Bacchante " because they had too much time. I took advantage, yes, to buy the book catalog of the exhibition, superbly edited and with samples of these and other different tables, and a lot of data about their work (see photo). Incidentally, the picture on the cover of the book was there, and was a marvel of color, light and drawing.
After I took to see the Thyssen, who had long since I visited, and I was entranced by a landscaper who did not know anything and has several paintings in the museum, and also with another painter who was also unaware but seemed more irregular. The first is Frederic Edwin Church, American painter of the nineteenth century, and I looked fantastic. His pictures (of varying sizes) have a depth and a life, as he did not see much. In fact, after taking a good time watching one of his landscapes very closely in every detail, I started walking backwards away to take general vision, and I was ahead a couple of Dutch viejetes peeling of me were so dedicated to the Church good .
In any case, the picture that I liked about him was one called "abandoned Barca, very small size (about 30x20cm), which was a marvel. 'm Playing circulating on the Internet, because it has nothing to do with the original. Reproduction is completely desaturated color and looks like a pure land all, while the original is a bath of blue and green all around awesome. I have to do more research on this artist.
The other landscape is Hugh Bolton Jones, with a few pictures also in the museum. I thought that alternated with regular good things, but together we can say that very good too.
What else comment? Well, after seeing Gerome and smooth surfaces, I admired to see the wonder of Sargent filled gobs of paint (" The seller garlic in Venice") and then completely transparent parts where you could see the canvas. I marveled again Rembrandt self-portrait at the various restorations have removed all material applied by the Dutch (yet a marvel of a table). And as always, see Hals was (along with Velazquez ) the first impressionist Egon Schiele was a figure drawing machine (not his views, frankly, I do not say anything at all ), which Holbein was the best portrait of history, and look closely at the box Bramantino the risen Christ, who impresses live: do not look anything like the play that I put, and you can see great details about (like the moon is a face, for example). I also gave a vote of confidence to C. Pissarro , I had never been convinced, but also had its share of disappointment: I do not understand what is the critical Renoir (other than a gift for composition), endorsing that Corot in my humble opinion I had no idea (no color is not a single "clean" in his paintings), change a little the idea of my dear Dürer: as an artist is great, but his pictures are little more than colored drawings,
that Live in earning a lot.
Finally, one day completito art. So I ended up with legs, kicking so much ground. And with what cost me the car could have bought one pictures of Thyssen, sure.

Women Wearing Nylon Stocking
Daily - Crash! Watercolor
Well, actually I'm lying: there is a watercolor. And it's not a casualty. It's actually a wash made with coffee on Louise Brooks. And what an accident is because it was opening a jar of blue ink (the mania for two or three pictures at once), and I've dropped a big blue glob in the corner of the lips of the poor Louise and that there was no choice but to use it and continue with the blue too.
Louise Brooks was one of the actresses most famous of silent films in the insane war years, and it became fashionable to cut "Garcon." Born in 1906 and died in 1985, and has been an icon for a lot of artists, among them (the graphics world) Guido Crepax and Manara . In fact, in 1926 starred in a comic, "Dixie Dugan ."
was one of the "victims" of the transformation from silent films to sound, refusing to versions in spoken his silent films. Also, European stage was considered very risqué in their country of origin (USA), so that gradually was removed from the film industry.
began as a dancer at an early age, and soon swelled the ranks of the Ziegfeld girls , the equivalent of 007 movies to launch today a girl to fame. The world of Hollywood soon noticed her and started making movies, Hollywood but she did not care. Launched into the mecca of European cinema of the moment: Germany. There would be shot the vital character: Lulu, who appeared in " Pandora's box" of Pabst . After this film came several more both in Germany and France, with content too extreme for its time, but today we are surprised by its insipidness.
When he came home with 25 films baggage, Hollywood turned its back, both because of European films and for not following the unwritten rules of the studies. So he devoted himself to reading, painting and writing essays on the film industry until the 50 the French rediscovered and created the icon Brooks.
"I learned to act watching Martha Graham dance, and learned to dance by watching Charlie Chaplin to act."

My Ferret Has An Enlarged Spleen, What Can I Do
Daily - The dwarf Calabacillas
is a curious story of this painting. Has always assumed that corresponds the jester of Felipe IV Juan Calabazas, of which there is another table discussion on the authorship of Velázquez, and which I believe is clearly inferior.
But as "classical" Pumpkins, there are all kinds of theories about its real meaning, and the character portrayed. It has always been accepted that portrayed the dwarf, but new theories doubt it. In the book "Velázquez and Calderón ... " of the Royal Academy of History, we propose an interesting thesis: the pumpkins that seem to surround the dwarf are not such, but a (her left) a vessel of the usual at the time, and the other is a gold flask empty and overturned. The truth is that the flask is very clear.
From this data, the book takes place symbolizes how the vial Apollo, and therefore the true knowledge (through a line of thought a bit complex to describe briefly) and a duality between the choice of concepts equally possible: vacuum-packed, alive, dead, smart-dumb.
From there we went to the "rogue fable" of Aesop , in which a rogue goes to the temple of the god Apollo to try to trick you. In their hands lies a bird on the questioner to God if he is alive or dead. According to Apollo answer, the rogue will kill or release from his hands. God discovers the ruse and replied that only depends on the rogue he is alive or dead.
In the box, the Fool seems to hide something in his hands, giving credence to this theory, especially considering the crowd of Velázquez by philosophy (among his works are several philosophers, and I remember that in the list Your library also had books on the subject), but probably never know the real message of the picture.
In short, the book can find all the plot which, again, is very complex. Probably no entendáis no explanation that I have, but I've summarized the best I can ;-) Let's stay with the wonder

Wedding Dance Mount & Blade Guide
daily Watercolor - two versions of the Castillo de la Mota
Two versions of the same theme: the Castillo de la Mota , famous because in it the great Anatoli Karpov gave me jaque mate en 10 movimientos cuando yo tenía 12 años (el muy abusón, todavía estoy esperando a que me dé la revancha ;-D).
Sólo un chico de 14 años consiguió make tables, the rest - would spend about 150-200 in front of the board, we shipped a plis plas.)
why I made two versions? In the first watercolor I jumped at without thinking too much and when I finished I said: "Yes, I painted the castle but I painted a watercolor," so I decided to do it again the next day.
The next day I went into the watercolor without thinking too much, though I tried to look a little more atmospheric perspective (obviously without much success if we see the tower on the right and his long shadow, although the main tower is a bit more careful in this respect). So probably
there will be a third version, to see if I with the right key ... Watercolor on Fabriano
